Conductos laterales en Endodoncia: Reporte de 4 casos

Abstract

Endodontic therapy has a high long-term success rate when performed under controlled conditions and following recommended standards. However, sometimes the complex anatomy of root canals makes the procedure difficult. Particularly in necrotic teeth, lateral canals could be considered a failure factor if their diameter allows the development of a lateral lesion. In the case reports, four patients are shown, who underwent endodontic therapy or retreatment using an operating microscope, and lateral canals were detected. One case was performed in a single session; while three were performed in two sessions, using calcium hydroxide as intracanal medication for two weeks. Obturation was performed using the continuous wave technique in all cases. The presence of sealed lateral canals could be observed. In cases with associated radiolucency, remission was observed. It can be concluded that lateral canals reflect the state of the main canal, they can be present in any root canal third and can be managed following a conventional approach.
