In recent years, researchers in the biomedical and dental fields have begun to employ micro-computed tomography (micro-TC) for research purposes. Thanks to various technological advances in X-ray sources and imaging techniques the use of micro-TC in experimental studies has progressed remarkably. Micro-TC allows scientists to examine microstructures, density variations, and morphological transformations. This literature review article addresses recent developments in micro-TC in the analysis of root canal morphology, representing one of the major advances in endodontic research, as it is based on X-ray images obtained in multiple slices that are digitally combined to form a three-dimensional (3D) image.
