Objective: To determine the frequency of medical comorbidities in patients in the Endodontic Department from the Roberto Beltrán School of Dentistry of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, between January - December 2017.
Methodology: The sample of the present study included 622 virtually records including all patients whose histories were complete, where medical comorbidity was the variable; and the co-variables were gender, age, pulp and periapical diagnosis. The data were analyzed descriptively by the Excel 2016 software.
Results: The frequency of medical comorbidities was 40.68%, predominating drug allergies, followed by circulatory diseases, and gastrointestinal diseases. In addition, of the patients who presented at least one medical comorbidity, 33.20% were male and 66.80% were female. There was also a higher frequency of medical comorbidities in the age range 41 to 60 years, with previous root canal treatment and symptomatic apical periodontitis being the predominant pulpal and periapical diagnosis.
Conclusion: The most common medical comorbidities were drug allergies, circulatory diseases, and gastrointestinal diseases.
